It's almost the end of the school year and you have read many good books. Take time to think about one book you would consider to be one of your favorites. Take time to reflect upon why that book was one of your favorites and what you would tell your peers about that book.
Your task:
• Write about your favorite book. Include:
• Title
• Summarize the text
• Explain what kept you reading (examples: development of characters, action, suspense, part of a series, etc.)
• Why you think others would like the book
My example:
I loved reading The Watson's Go To Birmingham. This text is about a school-aged boy named Kenny and his family. The Watson family lives in Michigan in the 1960s. Kenny's older brother continually gets himself in trouble. So much so that his parents decide that he should spend some time with his grandma in the south. At this time in history, African Americans were discriminated against, especially in the south where the grandmother lived (Kenny and his family were African American). Kenny witnesses a church bombing. Not only that, he thought his little sister was one of the four girls who died in the bombing. He was relieved his sister was not in the church, but the incident left him traumatized. The family leaves immediately to go back to Michigan. There, his naughty big brother helps him smile again. This book kept me wanting to turn the page and read more because of the humor that was sprinkled throughout the text, even during the serious "heavy" parts. I also loved the way that the author incorporated actual pieces of history in the text. I found it so interesting that it made me read more about the actual history that was in the text. I think that people would appreciate the humor in the book, the realistic problems the characters had, and the history that was incorporated in the text.
My favorite book that I read this year was one by Valerie Tripp and it was called Changes For Molly. This text is about a girl named Molly who had a town play to go to. Molly got picked to be the main character (Miss America)! She went through so many steps to get picked to be Miss America! The stepds that she took were making her hair curly and pretty and practicing to memorize the dance. Soon after she was so excited on the day of the town show she ended up getting sick. Molly's dad was in the war areas caring for people so could not watch Molly and make sure she was OK. Molly's brothers, her sister and mom all had a part in the play and had to go. Molly had to stay home all alone untill her family came back from this big town play! All of a sudden someone bursted through the door and yelled up to Molly's room. The voice yelled Molly are you OK I heard you were sick! Molly was so scared untill her dad bursted in through her room!!!!! Molly got so excited that she jumped up and gave her loving dad a huge hug since he was gone for two whole years helping people if they got sick or ingured in the war! I kept reading this book because number one it was the last book of a series of six. Reason number two of why I kept reading was because it was a good series of books for me and some parts of the books left you hanging. I like when books leave you hanging because the next time you pick up the book you just want to keep on reading and I LOVE to read when it is just the right kind of book for me!!! I think others would like this book because when you read this book you always think about it like you are in Molly's shoes and it kind of is cool because you get a good feeling of what Molly's life was like back then! That is what my favorite book is and why I really, really, really, liked the book!!!

It is about cats that meet the meeting place is like a dome and the cats are from all over the world and they talk about dogs,some dogs diary writings,diary writings and some other things. There is a cat who is like the leader of all the cats and he is the one who talks about all the things. All the other cats ask questions and they say comments. The "leader" calls on cats to share thing about them and what type of cat they are.The library cat,To catch a thief,Rama,the gypsy cat,Fuzzy's Two Worlds,Miu: The Great Cat Of Egypt,GO-GO Goes Bananas,My Adventure,Gorgio's Recipes for outdoor Cuisine ,Sarge's One Wish and M-E-O-W TILL NEXT YEAR! There are 13 chapters. I will tell you about Fuzzy's TWO WORLDS. Fuzzy's family gets a Christmas and eh or she lays under the tree and finds a red ball at the top of the tree and he or she climbs up the tree and gets near the red ball and the tree falls to the ground and they throw he or she and the door and he or she is used to being inside not outside and plus it is snowing!!! And I am chilly!!!!!!! He or she yells,"let me in!!!!!!!" Then s=he or she is like they always let me back in when ever I am being bad!!! I like the book because I like cats and by looking at the cover (witch has a cat with glasses and a pencil in his mouth) is funny looking! It makes me keep reading because I want to find out if something happens to the cats and it is a book that makes me read on.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a favorite book but one of the books that I like is percy jackson but my dog ate my book so another favorite book is Jack Russel the dog detecktive it is a book about a dog and the oner is a detecktive so the dog looks for people and tries to find clues and then barks to the oner oour shows him. But it is not just him he has a group to help him and they catch the thief themselfs and I like it because it is mystery and I like mystery books exspecily with dogs because I love dogs!!! and they are all different kinds of mysterys and there no where near the same and I like books like that because it is the same sireis but it is all different.I hope to read more or I will read more over the SUMMER! I will be stating the 4th or 5th book I love Jack Russel books and I like mystery books because it is always fun to find out what will happen next and what cluses will they find and once you have to stop reading I always want to read on reading is fun and when you don't have anything to do you can read!!! a book that you like oor just find a book to read.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite book are the american girl books I like the Juile books I like the Juile books the best because they are more in the modern day and i can understand them very well. I am on the third Juile book it is call Happy new year Juile so far what is happening in the book is Juile and her sister Tracy are at there dads house and they are opening little presents but tracy did not really want to go to her dads because she is a teenager and she says she always has plans and I can really understand it because it is more in the modern day like today and Juile likes to play basketball like me and that is why I like the american girl Juile books.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book of the year is Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. It was so good that I might have to read the awesomeness again! In the beginning, Percy and his Demi-god friends start to prepare for battle against the Lord of Time, Kronos. Kronos is going to attack Manhattan, New York where Mount Olympus stands unguarded.
ReplyDeleteIn the middle, Percy sets up a defense against Kronos monsters and twisted Demi-gods that are going to march out on bridges and tunnels. The Apollo cabin shoots arrows at the monsters and twisted demi-gods while the Ares cabin fights with swords against the bigger monsters like giants and many other nasty tall things. If you are wondering about the "mortals", well they're all asleep from a spell cast by Hypnus. Percy has a final show down against Kronos on one of the bridges and a twisted demi-god goes up behind Percy with a dagger and starts to do the motion of stabbing when Annabeth (a very good friend of his) jumps in front of the dagger and takes the stab for Percy. She is healed back at their headquarters. In the big battle, lots of good demi-gods get bloody and bruised and that makes the healer's job a lot harder.
In the end, Percy and Annabeth defeat Kronos by convincing Luke to over throw Kronos's spirit and when Luke does he takes Annabeth's dagger and stabs himself to kill the spirit of Kronos before he blow up Olympus.
The thing that keap me reading was all the action and wondering if Percy's going to die or is Kronos just going to walk up to all Percy's friend's and blow them through.
I think others will like the little jokes Rick throws in once and a while and if you love action these are the books you'll love!
If I had to pick 1 of my all time favorite books, it would be The 39 Clues Storm Warning. It is about these 2 kids named Dan and Amy Cahill. In the begining Dan and Amy are trying to find clues from their grandma Grace. They were fighting over where to go to try and find there next clue and they were arguing where to go which was either Jamaca or the Bahamas. They went to the Bahamas and met their almost friend, Nellie. So then they went on a cruise and found another clue. It was a secret code. I decided to keep reading it because it was funny. Amy and Dan get in fights alot and it is funny because they are saying non smart things when they're both smart, but I also like the book because it is a part of a series. I think others would enjoy this book because if you like mysteries than this book is perfect for you. The book is jam packed full of mysteries.

ReplyDeleteThis book is about a kid named Nate who thinks hes all awesome ( he is but I'm still awesomer ) and Nate hates this girl (or loves her) named Giani,Giani is a compet suck ups from Nate's percetive and he think that suck ups are geeks.
My favorite book is Found. It's about a boy named Chip and a boy named Jonha. They were both adopted. Chip is the new kid in his neighborhood. Chip came over to Jonha's house and they played basketball. When Jonha went to get the mail after Chip went home he got a note that said " You are one of the missing ".
ReplyDeleteAt night when Jonah was eating dinner Chip came over and he had the same note. They had a talk about being adopted. Chip was REALLY nervous about the note. They didn't know what it meant or who it was from. They went to Chip's house and opened a safe and tried to find the adoption papers. Chip really wanted to know who his birth parents were.
I'm only on chapter five now but so far this is my favorite book. I think that people who like mysteries would like this book.
My favorite book has to be The 39 Clues book 9 Storm Warning. I like this book because in the beginning of the book on the first page Amy Cahill and her brother Dan Cahill are fighting about this one girl named Anne Bonny. The reason why I like this part and book is because ever sence our class saw that one interview with all of the writers who take there time writing these fabulous stories. I realized right after the interview those book seem pretty interesting. So then I said "Dominic. Dominic reads those books and has 3 of them." So I read book 2 and said I love these books And I got book 9 and book 10 from The book fair at school. I am reading book 9 right now and I am on chapter 2. Now the reason why I like this part of the book is because of how I picture them arguring it seems kind of funny to me. I would say this book is for people who like misterys would enjoy this books Very much and the whole series of the book because there is 11 right now in the whole series. I know I love these books.

ReplyDeleteSummary of the text: Because of Winn-Dixie is about a dog that was found in the grocery store by a girl named India Opal Buloni, called Opal. She has a father who is a preacher and her mother left her and her father because she did not like being a preacher’s wife. She names the dog Winn-Dixie after the grocery store that she found him in. Winn-Dixie did not like thunderstorms. He had a fear for them and that fear is called a pathological fear. Opal and Gloria, Opal’s friend, held a party and it was thunder storming and when everything was inside Opal remembered about Winn-Dixie. Opal was very upset that she had not held onto Winn-Dixie and she had thought that he had run away. So she and her father went out to look for him and he was under Gloria’s bed the entire time. Opal was very happy when she found Winn-Dixie.
What kept me reading was it was funny, serious, it had a dog that was the main character and I like dogs and I wanted to understand it more. I first heard it from my teacher and then I read it at least two times by myself. I think others would like this book because it was very humorous and it has a BIG IDEA about helping those who are less fortunate.
Diary of a wimpy kid(The Last Straw) is a novel about a boy named Greg and it tells about his life and what happens in school. For example he gets bullied because he is small. Funny things happen throughout the year, like when he didn’t have any clean clothes to wear and he got a pair with underwear in them. In school the underwear fell out of his pants. I would recommend this book because it is very funny and interesting and I like the cartoons.

What is ceping me reeding is that Amber got her eras perst with her dad when her mom side no and Amber did it eney whas and then when her mom foned out she got vaery agery ta her and her dad and Amber's mom and dad are divorst so Amber lives with her mom and sleps over at her dad's hose some time's.

ReplyDeleteThe summerie is that Nancy&Gorge&Beth go with there"boy friends" go to this club and Nancy changed her name. They find that the club use to be a huge house and people lived there and they were from Italy and a wife of a man was homesick so the man made a statue that wishpered something but it was to soft to understand but it was sotlen many years later and hidden Nancy finds a copy of it in a shed she soon find that it belongs to a rich person who did no know that it was propty of the club she gave it back.
I have loved all thebooks I read this year but if I had to choose a favorite I would choose "The Lightning Theif." It is about a boy who is 12 who has deslixea witch means when ever you look at words the letters are mixed up. He also had ADHD witch means he gets hyper, he gets off topic easily, and it is hard for him to pay atention. He has a friend named grover in school who has a beard. The book involves greek mytholigiy witch involves the greek gods. One of the Gods Zuez thinks that Percy stool his most powerful wepon the lightning bolt. So Zuez would send cretures to get Percy so he had to go to this camp called "Camp Half Blood" there was a gate that would protect Percy and Grover but unfornately his Mom wouldn't be because only speical people could get through. When Grover Percy and Percy's Mom were running away from a monster his Mom got taken away because Percy Mom couldn't get through the gate so Percy's Mom got vanished to the underworld. He to camp did some traning but one night he sneaked out of camp to get his Mom back Grover followed him because grove was really Prcys protecter and also part goat and a Percy's friend Anabeth followed Percy too. But they went to someone they meant in camp to get some extra gear. They had to face Madusa,Hadies, and the person they got extra gear from who really stool the lightning bolt. I really loved tjis book and if you read it I'm sure you will like it too.
ReplyDeleteI have all kinds of books I like but one of the best is The Big Fat Cow That Goes Kapow. This book has amazing pitcures. Anytime the cow gets scared or nervous it goes KAPOW! I like this book beacuse it has alot of different animals in it.This book includes ten different stories. So you will not get bored with this book.I know other will like this book because it is very funny and the stories are short.

It tells you this is bad to do like you can not fish for whales on Sunday and frogs can not crock after 11pm and you can not steat a alligator and also there is like did you know that facts. I think a lot of people would like this because it is very cool and interesting to read. I like this book because it is interesting and has cool facts.

I like diary of a wimpy kid #1 because it is funny and I can read it any time I what to because I have the hole serious on my book self somewere on there I am on the third book.In the third book Greg Heffley will never change his wimpy ways.Somebody needs to explain to Greg Heffley's father.

Title: Animal Strike at the Zoo
ReplyDeleteThis book is about some zoo animals that didn't want to put up with being on display for people to see and watch them do tricks. The animals decided that they had enough. So they decided to go on strike and to make signs to show how's boss. They made headlines and the news spread all over the zoo. The elephants had decided that they were tired of working for peanuts because they were big and fat and they said that they needed more food to eat.
I think that other kids would like this book because it is a funny story. And the animals start to tell the people who work at the zoo what they want to eat and they show them pictures of the food. I laughed the whole time I was reading this book. I think others would enjoy it too.
My favorite book I ever read was Harry Potter! I like that book so much because all the magic! What this book is about is that a boy and he is a wizard but he dose not know that in till the keepers of keys comes and brings him to Hogewats and he leaders how to be a wizard and meats some new friends along the way!!!

ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite book because Amber is alot like me. She is alot like me because she is bad sometimes and I am bad sometimes too.
What is keeping me reeding is that Amber got her ears pierced with her dad when her mom said no! Amber did it anyway and then when her mom found out she got very angry at her. Her dad and Amber's mom are divorced so Amber lives with her mom and sleeps over at her dad's house sometimes. I would recommend this book because it is silly and Amber is learning how to get along in different situations with her parents. This book will make you laugh.
The book that I enjoyed this year would be The wolf pack. It is about A boy who is a wolf scout And he goes on a feild Trip to Where the most wolfs live. Dering the fild Trip the boy sneeks away and Sees a wolf pack. He is so inchrestind in the wolfs that he dosn't rellize that the bus was leaving. My perdicshion at this part was I think the boy will notice and get scared but the wolfs she him and start a chase. But whaat really happins Is that the boys friend sees that he is missing And the Boy is doing well Hes hiding in a cave so no wolfs she him. I think you read it you'll think this is inchresting!
